Best of Show  Lakeside Middle School

In 2006-07 Lakeside Middle School in Garland County piloted the implementation of co-teaching strategies into one sixth grade math class and one seventh grade math class.  The classes were designed to have a ratio of 2/3 regular education students and 1/3 students with an individual education plan.  The co-teaching team included one content area teacher and one resource teacher in the classroom.  The teachers were provided co-teach training at Henderson State University thru the ERZ partnership.  Fifty percent of the students with disabilities in the co-taught class passed the state mandated Benchmark exam in the area of mathematics.

For the 2007-08 school year, nine teachers are currently implementing co-teaching into their instruction.  The program has been expanded into the area of literacy as well as math.
