SUMMER READING PROGRAM
For students entering fifth, sixth, and seventh grades
At Lakeside Middle School
Goals of the Summer Reading Program:
· To maintain/gain reading comprehension
· To encourage life-long reading
· To promote the joy of reading
Requirements: All students entering the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades are required to read three (3) books, one from the attached Middle School List. The other two books may, but are not required to come from the list. Parents are encouraged to help their child find age/grade appropriate books that are not on the required list. This list is just a guideline and provides titles at various levels of reading ability. Students should choose books that are of interest and enjoyable to them. Summer reading is a chance to explore different kinds of literature.
When students finish a book, they are expected to complete a page in their reading journal and get it signed and dated by a parent or designee. Reading journals will be a requirement for all middle school students. Journals are due by the Friday of the first week of school. (Note: Accelerated Reader quizzes are not recommended for books read as part of the summer reading program.)
